A new and improved Optical Image Stabiliser to ensure crisp, clear, High Definition images.
When filming using a video camera, jitter from tired hands can cause blurring and shaky looking shots. This can be especially visible in high zoom shots when even the tiniest hand-shake will be magnified. Panasonic eCams have helped solve this problem for years by employing an Optical Image Stabilizing (O.I.S.) system. This system uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even miniscule camera movements and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical, therefore it does not affect the image sensor (CCD) or image processing -- so you get sharp, clear images without any deterioration.
However, the advent of high definition resolution and ever larger TV screens has prompted Panasonic to take it's industry standard O.I.S. system to the next level. The result is the new and improved Advanced O.I.S. technology. Like its predecessor this system uses gyro-sensors to detect hand-shake, then shifts a lens and adjusts its optical axis to compensate. However this system performs the compensation operation 4,000 times a second - approximately eight times more frequently than the previous system. The result is even greater precision and accuracy. Again, because this is an optical system, there is virtually no loss of quality, resulting in images that are captured in all their original beauty. Advanced O.I.S. reduces the subtle blurring that can be caused by even a slight bit of hand-shake, and it is truly necessary in an age of large-screen, high-resolution TVs, when every image imperfection is easily visible.
