Panasonic has long incorporated environment as a key part of product design. Since 1991, we have been operating a product assessment system designed to pre-evaluate the environmental impact of our products where it really matters: the product planning and design stages.
Panasonic’s concept of green design aims to enhance the quality of people’s lives by improving product functions, whilst reducing their environmental impact over their life cycles at the same time.
All our designers must employ a technique called "Panasonic’s Product Assessment" based on the concept known as the Life Cycle Assessment. Its purpose is to identify and improve every product’s environmental performance. Panasonic applies accreditation criteria for Green Products based on three perspectives – prevention of global warming, effective utilization of resources, and non-use of specified chemical substances. Products with top environmental performance within the industry and those with particular trend-setting qualities for a sustainable life-style are accredited as Superior Products and Super Green Products, respectively.
Our goal is to help build a sustainable society by accelerating the spread of products with higher environmental performance. We aim to increase the ratio of Green Products across our entire product range and continue to achieve ever-higher targets. Therefore we draw up annual target plans in order to create our own benchmark for the future.
Design Stage
Continuously seeking to develop environmentally friendly products, also called "Green Products".
Our goal is to help build a sustainable society by accelerating the spread of products with higher environmental performance. Since we started the development of our Green Products Plan in 1997, we have worked to minimize the input of energy and resources and the output of waste and emissions throughout the products' life cycles. We constantly increase the ratio of Green Products across our entire product range. Our product development is based on criteria like universal design, which means easy-to-use for everyone, and minimization of environmental impact.
