Best Advanced Compact System Camera 2010 and Best Expert Photo Projector
Panasonic today has announced that it has been awarded two prestigious TIPA prizes. The company received both the prestigious Best Advanced Compact System Camera Award for its new Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G2 digital interchangeable lens camera system with touch screen control and the Best Expert Photo Projector Award for its Panasonic PT-AE4000 home theater projector.
"We are extremely pleased that we have been awarded two TIPA awards by Europe’s top journalists in the field of photo and imaging products,” said Laurent Abadie, Chairman & CEO of Panasonic Europe. “We invest a tremendous amount of effort in creating digital still cameras and projectors that people really enjoy using. Our LUMIX digital still cameras feature the latest state-of-the-art technologies and our home theater projectors also set new standards for excellence in their category.”
The DMC-G2 ranks as the world’s first interchangeable lens system camera with touch screen control shooting*. The Lumix G Micro System range has been sparking revolutions in the market ever since Panasonic released its DMC-G1 as the first interchangeable lens system camera based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard. In developing the new DMC-G2, Panasonic focused mainly on operability and elevated it even higher by adopting a touch-screen that connects the sight and action most intuitively. A simple touch on the subject in the LCD lets the user set AF to release the shutter. Various advanced AF functions that take advantage of high-speed, accurate contrast AF are now easier to use than ever before. And the camera body is compact enough to be called the world’s smallest and lightest**.
A TIPA jury spokesperson said: “By using the Micro Four Thirds System standard and developing a camera body that eliminates the mirror box and optical viewfinder unit, Panasonic was able to create a new-generation system camera that features full-time Live View, high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF, HD movie recording and now also Touch Screen Control with Touch-AF. With its lightweight body, the Lumix DMC-G2 provides experienced photographers with the ideal digital camera to carry with them at all times.”
The PT-AE4000, the other Panasonic product that won a TIPA Award this year, is a full HD home cinema LCD projector designed to satisfy even the most discerning home theater enthusiasts and audio video professionals. The new projector comes equipped with Panasonic’s new optical system and delivers 1080p (1,920 x 1,080 pixel) images with remarkable clarity, 1,600 lumen brightness, 80,000:1 contrast ratio and 100Hz Intelligent Frame Creation blur reduction technology.
The PT-AE4000 is the next stage in the evolution of its award winning predecessor, the PT-AE3000 that was widely praised by the home cinema community for its Hollywood-tuned high picture quality. Unique to Panasonic, the new Lens Memory 2 memorizes up to six different zoom/focus positions and can be set to automatically switch between 16:9 and 2.35:1 contents, due to the PT-AE4000’s new signal aspect detection capability.
“The Panasonic PT-AE4000 projector delivers 1080p full-HD images with remarkable clarity, 1600 lumen brightness, 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 100Hz Intelligent Frame Creation blur reduction technology. Home theater enthusiasts can now benefit from a 2.35:1 wide aspect screen, eliminating the Cinemascope issue and bringing the original picture quality intended by film and TV directors to the domestic market,” a TIPA jury spokesperson commented.
Established in 1991, the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) is an independent association of consumer electronics journalists, representing fourteen countries across Europe, South Africa and the United States. In April, the editors of the member photo magazines met in New York to vote for the best photo and imaging products launched by the industry over the last year. The TIPA Awards honour a specific product for its superiority in quality, performance and value as well as distinguishing the best in each classified category.
