Panasonic’s Lumix World Golf Game

Panasonic is supporting the ad campaign for its Lumix camera range with a new viral game Lumix World Golf.

Lumix World Golf is the latest in a series of successful viral games to promote the range and follows the success of last year’s award-winning Lumix ‘Temple of Zoom’ viral game, which notched up almost 1.5 million unique visitors.

The game was created with the help of Inbox, to help drive sales and increase sign ups to Panasonic’s e-CRM programme. The game communicates the two main unique features of the range – its 10x optical zoom and 28mm wide angle lens. The game also needed to capture the new advertising platform ‘Everything Matters’, which brings to life the Lumix lens feature, by showing Golden Gate Bridge crumpling, as a man tries to fit it in using an ordinary camera and the Sphynx coming towards a photographer to show that you need Lumix’s 10x optical zoom to get the shot you need.

Panasonic’s Lumix World Golf Game is based around an 18-hole game of crazy golf, played across nine world heritage site locations across the world. These include the Great Wall of China and the Golden Gate Bridge – with two holes played at each. The player’s challenge is to get through the increasingly difficult levels using as few shots as possible, notching up points for extra achievements, such as three pars in a row or a birdie. Players can view the holes to be played in 3-D and zoom in and out to line their angle up for the best possible shot. Achievements are rewarded at each level with prizes corresponding to the number of challenges completed. This is in return for signing up to the Lumix e-CRM programme.

Mark Robinson, product manager for Lumix comments, “Playing to Panasonic’s association with sport, crazy golf is a great universally appealing hook that will help us take the range to a really wide audience. The game also ties in with Panasonic’s support of The World Heritage Association’s photographic site ‘Our Place’ (www.ourplaceworldheritage.com). Players pit their skills against a course made up of famous World Heritage Association landmarks, such as Stonehenge and the Golden Gate Bridge. The clever 3-D view and zoom action promotes the Lumix camera ranges 10x zoom and wide angle features, as well as mega prizes hooking them in for maximum play and encouraging them to engage with the brand on a longer term basis.”

Panasonic’s Lumix Golf Game has been built with a flash 3-D engine. This creates 360 degree views of the holes it also enables players to zoom in and out with its gravity engine.
