SMALL IN SIZE BIG ON FEATURES
AFTER MUCH SEARCHING FOR A REPLACEMENT CAMCORDER I LOOKED AT THE PANASONIC HC-V700, TRIED IT OUT IN THE SHOP (VERY KNOWLEGEABLE AND HELPFUL ASSISTANT) AND BOUGHT IT. ALTHOUGH SMALLER THAN MY OTHER CAMCORDER, THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT IT WAS FOR THE IMAGE STABILIZER AS I HAVE A DISABILITY AND HAVE TO USE A WALKING STICK. THE FIRST THING I DID WAS SHOOT A SCENE WALKING (ACTUALLY TRIPPING OVER) BUT THE SHOTS CAME OUT TOTALLY BLUR FREE! ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. (MY OTHER CAMERA PRODUCES '3D EFFECTS' THAT NO 3D EQUIPMENT WOULD DECIPHER?) ALSO YOU HAVE THE CHOICE OF AUTO OR MANUAL ADJUSTMENTS. LIGHT AND VERY EASY TO USE - CONTROLS ARE IN A SENSIBLE PLACE AND SOME 'FORCE' REQUIRED TO MOVE SWITCHES AND BUTTONS (VERY GOOD SAFETY FEATURE). GREAT FOR JUST 'POINT AND SHOOT' OR MORE TECHNICAL SHOTS WITH THE ABILITY TO SHOOT IN VARIOUS MODES (INCLUDING MAC). OVERALL, A VERY GOOD CAMCORDER WITH PLENTY OF FEATURES WHICH SHOULD EXCEED MOST PEOPLES' EXPECTIONS AND NEEDS.

Fine Instrument
I wanted to upgrade from my Video 8 camcorder as tapes are getting hard to find and are becoming expensive. I am pleased with the ability to film into memory without worrying about using up tape. I can for example set up the camcorder on a tripod watching the garden and leave it running, in the hopes of filming a rare appearance of the fox. If he does not come, the shot can quickly be deleted.
I don't use the higher funcitons: what I want is good quality and easy uploading to my pc, both of which are fine. I also wanted good sound quality for recording piano playing, and I am pleased with what it achieves with the in-built stereo mic. Thank you for a pleasing product.

More bad than good
As an existing Panasonic camcorder customer, I was excited about upgrading to HD. I am actually disappointed.
(+) The zoom is actually very good and stable with OIS on.
(+) Built-in light is bright and good for close distance shooting.
(+) Macro zoom is good
(-) There is motion blur and fuzzy edges at slow panning speeds, despite the write-up on the website.
(-) The camcorder makes a strange fan-like sound which is picked up by the built-in microphone. Additionally, zoom motor noise is also recorded, so don't expect silent operation in quiet environments.
(-) The slot-in shoe mount is of poor design as it moves around when accessories are fitted to it, resulting in clunks. It simply should not move at all.
(-) An external battery charger would be better as you can't charge one and use a spare at the same time. Panasonic have gone back in time here, as my decade old camcorder came with an external charger.
(-) No touch screen functions or info display when recording self. This means you can't make any manual adjustments and you need to reach round to the rear to press the record button.

Super compact camcorder
First digital camcorder owned and have to say that so far it has performed better than I expected in all areas. Was used on family Holiday 1 week after purchase and it was simple to pick up and use without reading too much of the manual (which is very extensive and thorough). It has produced excellent HD Video and even impressive still pictures. Comes with all the necessary leads to connect up to your computer and TV to look at, would've been nice to have a HDMI cable included as it uses a mini connector on the camcorder so cannot use the ones I already have. All in all, very pleased with this purchase and hope to use it extensively.
