The DMC-FX80 incorporates bright F2.5 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT lens from 24mm ultra wide-angle. The F2.5 lens is approx. 25% brighter than the F2.8 lens which is generally considered a bright lens. It allows the use of faster shutter speed and captures clear, blur-free images even in low lighting situation. The 5x optical zoom increases its power to 10x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function. This is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology.

The Creative Control comprehends 10 filters: Expressive, Retro, High Key, Low Key, Sepia, High Dynamic, Dynamic Monochrome, Toy Effect, Soft Focus, Miniature Effect. The Beauty Retouch makes it possible to virtually make up the faces. This mode includes Smile Look, Aesthetic Retouch (Clear Skin, Shine Removal, Whitening of Teeth, Lift Up, Eye Emphasis), Foundation and Make-up Retouch (Lip Color, Cheek Color, Eye Shadow). The Defocus Effect defocuses the surroundings of subject. The Creative Retouch adds 6 different effects by applying filters.

The DMC-FX80 adopts touch-screen operation with 3.0-inch Smart Touch Screen. Auto Focus is immediately set to the subject by just touching it on the large LCD and you can even release the shutter. Once you lock on the subject by a touch, the camera tracks the subject with the AF tracking function even if it moves. While playing back, you can create your own albums on the camera.

The DMC-FX80 can record full HD 1920 x 1080 videos in AVCHD / MP4 format, thanks to Hi-Speed CCD that features higher transfer processing speed. The AVCHD format excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray DiscTM players. The MP4 format has high compatibility with computers. A separate button lets you instantly start recording video. The iA Mode and Creative Control are available in video recording. Videos also come with the high-quality sound system of Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator and zoom noise reduction.

The MEGA O.I.S. compensates blurring caused by hand-shake. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images. The MEGA O.I.S. lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or evening illumination without losing the mood. It also works for macro shots and zoom shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake. The Active Mode effectively suppresses blur in video recording especially at wide angle while walking or playing with your children.
