Got the camera back after a week and seems to be working perfectly. Really delighted with the image quality and range of control.

I splashed out on this camera for a big overseas trip and it has taken some fantastic photos. However it has now devoloped a fault with a shadow across the screen - looks like a faulty sensor because the photos are affected too. Bit gutted as I have a week of my holiday to go. Have checked out repair service so will see how it is treated.

DMC - LX7 - even better!!
Having previously owned an LX5 I had no hesitation in purchasing the LX7. These compact cameras are brilliant & capture exceptional images, comparable with much more expensive 'high-end' DSLRs.
With the LX7 you get more manual controls and a wonderful bright new lens. It even produces images in HDR. (I know some other makes do as well, but Panasonic products seem to have the edge when it comes to a solid, well put together feel.)
For anyone who does not want to lug heavy bags full of camera body + a variety of lenses about, this is all the camera you'll need.

The f1.4 Leica Vario-Summilux lens tells you for a start that this is not a toy! The LX7 feels and operates like a real camera should. I previously owned the excellent LX3 and the LX7 is very significantly better all round. The camera produces high quality images although noise is apparent at higher ISO settings. It features a large number of customisation options both for individual exposures and general operation. It will handle just about everything you would want to shoot - in particular under available light. My only real grouse is that you cannot use the auto-bracket and self-timer together. As there is no remote shutter release facility, this is not good for certain kinds of HDR shot that requre use of a tripod. On the other hand the LX7 has its own inbuilt HDR processing - but the result, although good, may not be exactly what you want.
