Ultra-Compact Body in 3 Colours
Lumix GF1 comes in an ultra-compact, stylish flat body weighing only 285g (body only) - 26% lighter in weight and 35% smaller in physical dimension than G1. This significant reduction in the body size was achieved by not containing the pentaprism normally found on other standard interchangeable lens cameras. The high-grade aluminum body is dressed in 3 classic colours to inspire your creativity - Black (K), Silver (S) or Red (R).
Technology behind DSLR photo quality
12.1 Megapixel Live MOS Sensor
The 4/3-type 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor in the GF1 offers the superior image quality of a CCD sensor, and the lower power consumption of a CMOS sensor. It can deliver up to 60 frames-per-second Full-time Live View images, while reproducing images with fine detail and rich gradation.
Dust Reduction System
When GF1 is switched on, the supersonic wave filter placed in front of the Live MOS sensor is activated automatically. The filter vibrates 50,000 times per second to remove the dust from the sensor to ensure optimal shooting condition.
Venus Engine HD
The sophisticated LSI (Venus Engine HD) separates chromatic noise from luminance noise and applies noise reduction to each, so users can capture beautiful images, even when shooting at high ISO sensitivity levels. It also allows long-time movie recording in AVCHD Lite format, while maintaining low power consumption.
...and here's why the experts love it - Uncompromising Performance
Built-in Flash & Intelligent LCD
Despite its size, the GF1 comes equipped with a built-in flash and boasts a large 3.0-inch Intelligent LCD with a wide viewing angle and full 460,000-dot resolution. The Intelligent LCD offers extremely fine, automatic backlight control in combination with high resolution for outstanding viewing in any condition. The optional Live View Finder also gives you the smooth 60 fps full-time view in sync with LCD.
Fast & Precise Contrast AF
The contrast AF system on GF1 features the industry’s high-speed (approx. 0.3 sec with a Lumix G standard zoom lens
H-FS014045.) Users can choose from multiple-area AF with up to 23 focus areas, 1-area AF with a selectable focus area, Face Detection, and AF Tracking. The GF1 also has a Quick AF function that begins focusing as soon as the user aims the camera to enable quick focusing.
Exposure Meter
The unique graphical user interface enables the user to visualise the shutter speed & aperture status, and control the values accordingly by using the rotating dial found on the rear of the camera. The GF1 comes with 4 automatic exposure meter modes (A, S, P, M modes), assisting the user to achieve the optimal shutter speed & aperture setting efficiently.
Assisting your Creativity
My Colour Mode
7 preset + 1 customizable image effects that are easily accessible on the Mode Dial. The effect selection includes Expressive, Retro, Pure, Elegant, Monochrome, Dynamic Art, and Silhouette to expand your imagination in both still image and movie. With the Live View function, users can see how these settings will affect the photo even before they shoot.
Peripheral Defocus
New to the Lumix's innovative Scene Mode (SCN) is the 'Peripheral Defocus'. Simply turn the Mode Dial to 'SCN' and select the Peripheral Defocus option on the LCD screen. By moving the focus box to the object of your choice, GF1 will automatically choose the best setting to shoot peripheral defocus photos (eg. Defocused foreground on the photo above).
HD Movie Recording
The GF1 is not only a digital camera, it also records High Definition motion pictures in the AVCHD Lite format. This cutting-edge HD video recording & playback format is extremely efficient, saving battery & storage capacity to nearly double the recording time of HD footage compared to conventional Motion JPEG.
Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lenses
The compact, lightweight LUMIX G lenses and LEICA DG lens support the Contrast AF function of GF1 and feature Panasonic's advanced optical technologies, such as MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer). These high-performance lenses comply with the Micro Four Thirds System, an interchangeable lens camera system that was designed and developed to optimize the characteristics of digital technology. It carefully preserves the image quality of the 4/3-type image sensor, while reducing the size of the camera body and particularly the size of wide-angle lenses. The Micro Four Thirds System also offers excellent expandability and adaptability to future functions.
Four Thirds System Adaptability
The GF1 can be fitted with the mount adaptor DMW-MA1 that allows the use of a wide variety of high-performance Four Thirds lenses, including Leica D lenses. Naturally, the shooting functions of the GF1 remain usable with the DMW-MA1 mounted*. Unleash your creative possibilities, for example, by using a single focus lens to capture images with a beautiful, softly focused background, and an ultra-powerful zoom to pull distant wildlife right up close.
* Lenses that are not compatible with the contrast AF function can be used with manual focusing.

Leica M System / Leica R System Adaptability
The LEICA mount adaptors are developed under support of Leica Camera AG making it possible to attach Leica M lenses (DMW-MA2M) and Leica R lenses (DMW-MA3R) on the DMC-GF1. These adaptors also allow users to use movable MF assist function which enlarges the selected area when focusing manually. The compatibility information is available at;

Why should a serious camera be complicated?
The interchangeable lens system camera with so many advanced technologies may appear that this camera is only for the experienced photographers. However, thanks to its compact body with many easy-to-use funtions, GF1 is also an ideal choice for those who are new to system cameras to experience the potential to explore realms of photography far beyond the limits of compact cameras.
